  Fun with numbers

  i thought of posting this in the 1914 thread, but the apologists are already hijacking that.

  when i was writing "armageddon's disciples" i wanted to set it within an apocalyptic religion struggling with failed prophecy.

  as the books evolved i kept updating the dates for that failed prophecy.. one early version went this way: .

  A luncheon with ultra PIMI, elderly relatives

  i had a luncheon yesterday with and aunt and cousin.

  the only reason i went, and endured it, was because my father who can’t drive wanted to see them.

  as i sat there eating the lunch at the restaurant, i couldn’t help think how totally oblivious they are to what’s going on, in an ever expanding organisation of the happiest people on earth.

  i still remember the first time i commented on this board with nervous fingers barely able to press the keys.

  what triggered my entry into the forbidden was the orchestrated disfellowshipping of my then 21 year old son.. well, he's now 51, with a supportive wife, two genius sons who will never see the inside of a kingdom hall.. my first wife of 49.5 years, loyal and supportive to a fault, passed away 5 years ago.. in 2019 i married a young filipina, 33 years my junior, a nominal catholic.

  my life with her has simply been amazing and i treasure every moment.

  Yes I agree worship can have a clarity and serenity to it once you mentally get off the JW wheel. Congrats and best wishes.

  New Convention Song “ It Will Not Be Late”

  this made me chuckle.

  a new song that they are encouraged to practice for the convention.. “ we know your day will come, sure as the rising sun.

  no matter how long it takes , it will not be late” …………... it is based on habakkuk 2 , we discussed this in depth around 1973/1974.

  Maybe it's Splane, but one things for sure, all the convention songs are written by the same person and they're starting to phone it in. The paint by numbers 'inspirational' tunes are starting to run together.

  "50 years overdue"? That reminds me of a JW who mentioned the last days and said "they've been saying that for over 20 years" just because she was baptized in the 90s. Yeah it's more like 1 & 1/2 centuries by now.

  Sir Isaac Newton's date for the end of the World

  this uk newspaper carried a most interesting article about sir isaac newton.. apparently, as well as science, newton was interested in calculating the second coming of jesus and the end of the world, which he reckoned would happen in 2060.. https://www.express.co.uk/news/weird/1760879/isaac-newton-doomsday-prophecy-imminent-apocalypse.

  WT has speculated in the past that Newton was a member of the 144,000 so I guess there's no harm in borrowing that date in a couple decades when it'll be needed.

  Abraham was "awaiting a city having real foundations, a heavenly one", which is awkwardly mistranslated in the NWT as "a place belonging to heaven", to leave open the option for his earthly resurrection.

  Nicolas King: the clues continue

  former jw chorus member, original song performer and jw movie actor by day (and nightclub singer by night, not a bethelite & never was) nicolas king still hasn't come out about his sexuality or 'spiritual standing', although the clues have been accumulating for some time.

  some new ones to add to the list...... you might remember fellow jw singer alex ashley, with whom he partnered last year for a concert.. .
